Should Someone’s First Tattoo Ever Be a Full-Day Session?

A first-time client wants a large piece. The artist believes it can be completed in one full-day session, and the client is ready to pay and get it done. But the client has no idea how their body will handle several hours in the chair. They do not know their pain tolerance, how they react to the process, or whether they will still be making good decisions six hours into the appointment. Should an experienced artist recommend breaking the work into shorter sessions—even when the client insists on finishing it in one day? Is that responsible professional judgment, or should an informed adult be allowed to decide how far they want to push themselves?
